‘It’s not just about the tennis coaching, I also support students and aspiring professionals in all areas of life including education, language and personal development’.

Atsushi started playing tennis at Soma high school in Fukushima, Japan, where he played to a national level.

He also played 4 years for Senshu University in Tokyo, Japan.

Tennis coaching timeline:

Japan

-Tennis coaching study tour for a year in the US ( 1983)

-Worked for Dunlop Tennis Tokyo Office (1984-1991)

 

Moved to Sydney, Australia (1991)

-Started Ogai Tennis School in Castle Cove in Sydney (1991-2001)

-Began organizing tennis group tours for Japanese players to Australia (1991-today).

-Began International tennis player support (1991- today)

 

Moved Adelaide, Australia (2001)

-Started working with Peter Smith at Next Gen Memorial Drive. (2001-today)

-Started full-time and after school tennis program for international players (established around 2002-now)

  • Began traveling with students from the program and other top International players to National tournaments, ITF Junior tournaments and ITF Pro Tour.

 

Personal Background and Interests:

-Father of three children

– Competes regularly in marathons (PB 2hr59mins..!!)

-Keen trail runner ( Has completed 100km trail races in 2017,2018!!)

-Also tried triathlons!

  • Enjoys watching Japanese TV shows on Netflix, watching ballet and occasionally goes fishing…!
